4.8 17 reviews Activity provider: Sahara Tours

Embark on a wild off-road Sahara adventure with our 3-day Marrakech to Erg Chigaga Desert tour. Unlike the tourist-centric dunes of Merzouga, Erg Chigaga remains one of Morocco's most pristine, remote, and expansive dune fields—accessible only by 4x4 vehicles across off-road desert tracks. Traverse the dramatic High Atlas Mountains via Tizi n'Tichka Pass, explore the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ait Ben Haddou, journey along the lush palm groves of the Draa Valley, and discover ancient Quranic manuscripts in Tamgrout. Tour the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ait Ben Haddou, an authentic 17th-century mudbrick ksar featured in Gladiator, Game of Thrones, and Lawrence of Arabia. Continue to Ouarzazate, the "Gate of the Sahara," to explore Kasbah Taourirt or local movie studios before driving along the lush palm-lined Draa Valley to Agdz for check-in and dinner.

After breakfast, drive through the date-palm capital of Zagora and continue to Tamgrout. Visit its famous 16th-century Quranic library housing rare illuminated manuscripts written on gazelle hide, and watch local artisans craft traditional green pottery in subterranean kilns.
Pass through M'Hamid El Ghizlane, where the paved road ends and the true Sahara begins. Embark on a thrilling 2-hour off-road 4x4 expedition across gravel plains and sand dunes to Erg Chigaga, Morocco's largest sand sea (dunes reaching 300m height). Mount your camel for a sunset trek across the silent dunes, followed by a traditional Berber dinner, drumming around the campfire, and stargazing.

After breakfast at camp, set out in your 4x4 across the dried salt bed of Lake Iriqui, once populated by wild gazelles and ostriches. Search for marine fossils on the desert floor before reaching the remote outpost of Foum Zguid.
Drive to Taznakht, world-renowned for its authentic handwoven Berber carpets (Glawa and Ouaouzguite weaves), visiting a local women's weaving cooperative. Cross the High Atlas Mountains once more, arriving in Marrakech by evening for drop-off at your riad or airport.
